PMI has collaborated with IEEE Computer Society to jointly develop the Software Extension to the PMBOK® Guide Fifth Edition. This new standard provides readers with a balanced view of methods, tools and techniques for managing software projects across the life cycle continuum.

The main initiatives within ISO/TC 258 are developing an ISO standard on portfolio management, studying the feasibility of developing an ISO standard on project, program and portfolio governance, developing a vocabulary document, and studying the feasibility of developing an ISO standard on program management.

A new joint venture company - AXELOS - has been created between the Cabinet Office of the UK Government and Capita. AXELOS will own the intellectual property of the Best Management Practice product portfolio including PRINCE2®, MoP®, MSP®, MoV®, P3O®, M_o_R®, P3M3® and ITIL®.
